Losing Our Founder, A Father, A Leader, And A Mentor
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ
إِذَا مَاتَ الْإِنْسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ إِلَّا مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ جَارِيَةٍ
أَوْ عِلْمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ أَوْ وَلَدٍ صَالِحٍ يَدْعُو لَهُ
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1631
During this blessed month of Ramadan the Muslim Community Patrol Services family has lost someone we were truly blessed to have, our founder and brother Sami Uddin Razi. Our dear brother was a husband, a father, a leader, and a friend. His founding the Muslim Community Patrol Services was an extension of his love of Allah, his iman, his character, and his commitment to his community as a Muslim. Sami dedicated his life to the service of others as a means of pleasing his Lord and improving the lives of many whom he did not even know.
We are heartbroken at the loss of Sami, stunned by the suddenness of his passing, bereft of his beautiful way and his presence. But we are ultimately accepting of the decree of our Lord and comforted within our hearts by our supreme faith that Allah would shower His mercy upon such a beautiful soul.
Especially, we pray for Sami’s wife and children that Allah may comfort them and soothe their hearts. As we can testify that Sami was a righteous man and his example was expressed in the righteousness and character of his family, their sorrow is heavy on our hearts.
Muslim Community Patrol Services is a collection of people from many backgrounds, with members of many races, many faiths, coming from many different walks of life, and hailing from many different places. But we were unified as a family through our love for Sami and our shared commitment to service. His founding of MCPS created a way for us to give back and empowered us to make a difference in the community and in the lives of others. We are grateful to our Lord for having blessed us with Sami.
Sami’s kindness, his generosity, and his smile reached far beyond MCPS in that he supported so many different community members, organizations, local officials, and families. And this is truly a testament to Allah’s favor upon Sami and how great of a man Allah made him.
